Cecilia Lynch, Founder and Chief Strategist of Focused Momentum

Cecilia Lynch, Founder and Chief Strategist

Cecilia Lynch is a seasoned strategist and management consultant who has led strategic planning for companies, nonprofits, and academic departments for more than 25 years. Clients ask her back because she builds plans their organizations can carry out and stays accountable throughout the engagement.

Her outside-in approach to strategic thinking means clients reflect on their context before identifying strategic priorities, and her planning projects are anchored by her proprietary methods, including the Strategy Summit®, Strategic Focus Market Mapping, and Strategic Success Structure and Role Clarity.

Cecilia is passionate about making strategy possible for everyone, so to extend her capacity to deliver on this, she founded Strategy Class®. This training platform teaches the tools behind her work in strategic thinking, strategic planning, and strategic leadership.

How Our Team Works With You

Cecilia leads every engagement. She designs the process, facilitates the critical sessions, and is accountable for the engagement, start to finish.

Specialists join when the work calls for them. Specialists lead specific workstreams, such as brand strategy, departmental planning, leadership development, or team training, under Cecilia's oversight and alongside your project sponsor.

No account team in between. When specialists join the work, Cecilia stays involved and accountable. There's never an account manager between you and the strategist responsible for your engagement.

The Principles That Guide Our Work

We believe the people inside your organization have the insights, commitment, and desire to build its next strategic plan. But few have led strategic planning before, and that's where we come in.

Over the years, Cecilia has asked clients what makes Focused Momentum different and codified their answers into three principles. They guide how we design, conduct, and carry out every engagement: listening for strategic thinking wherever it shows up, distilling it into useful planning elements, and compiling those insights into a story that is meaningful to the people who will make the plan a reality.

Focused Momentum Principle one: We listen

We Listen

Our proprietary process surfaces the strategic thinking already in your organization. Great strategic thinking lives in the hearts and minds of the people doing the work; our job is to design a planning process that taps into it. We listen throughout the process, and we design it so new voices and new ways of thinking can be heard and built into the plan.

"We know there are 'hidden strategists' in every organization, and we seek them out, listen closely to what they have to say, and find ways to shine a light on their thinking in planning discussions." — Cecilia Lynch

Focused Momentum Principle two: We distill

We Distill

We draw out and build on strategic insights in a group setting, balancing open discussion with structured exercises so the plan reflects what participants actually know and believe. Cecilia has developed tools and techniques that sort and organize strategic thinking so it can be used to build the plan.

"The fees our clients pay us are not their most significant investment in planning. Their biggest investment is the time every participant gives to the planning sessions, so we design each session to make that time count." — Cecilia Lynch

Focused Momentum Principle three: We package

We Package

Strategic planning works differently from problem-solving. Problem-solving moves straight to a decision; strategic planning holds decisions open long enough to explore the space between where you are and where you want to be. For people used to problem-solving, that can feel chaotic and unproductive unless you capture insights as you go.

"Our Strategy Planning Template System documents them at every step, so the thinking from every session builds into one plan." — Cecilia Lynch
